Cornwall Community Come Up Trumps A small community in Cornwall pulled together and worked extremely hard to get a fantastic new play area at Sunflower park in Pensilva. The whole community, led by Clare Lambert and her team, were dedicated and focused on their playground mission. From the planning stages right through to the clearance of the site, the people of Pensilva proved that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. Play Area Brings Community Together Children of Castledawson were delighted with their exciting new play area, as the community came together to celebrate the grand opening. Lower Castledawson Community Association (LCCA) opened the play area in February 2013, with people throughout the community eager to test out the new equipment. The day was a great success and there was even a special guest appearance from Children in Need’s, Pudsey Bear, who were one of the funding providers. The aim of the project was to provide a safe environment for children to play that would impact on their private and social lives, allowing them to integrate with other children, learn to share, increase confidence and respect for others, while encouraging active and healthy lifestyles. Nick Moffett, the Cross Community Development Worker at LCCA, is delighted with the playground, saying: “Playdale was chosen as the contractor because LCCA had seen other work that they had completed and came highly recommended by other groups. The project has been successful and feedback from the parents in the area has been very positive. Not only is it good for the kids but also for single parents to get out and meet other people from the area.” The group kick-started the playground project by applying for funding through a number of providers, including: Viridor Credits, SITA Cornwall Trust, Caradon Area Community Fund and the Cornwall Councillor Community Grant Scheme, along with fantastic fundraising efforts in the community. A special finishing touch came from one of the local children called Nyah, aged 11, who designed the sign for the playground. From the humble beginning through to the watering of the new turf, this park was an overwhelming community effort. Before After 13 Case Studies Pagina 12
